Qm

How precise is the maximum likelihood rate estimate?

Inter-arrival times X1,,XnX_1, \dots, X_n are i.i.d. Exponential with rate λ\lambda. The maximum likelihood estimator is λ^=1/Xˉ\hat\lambda = 1/\bar X.

Find the large-sample distribution of λ^\hat\lambda, and show it is asymptotically efficient. What is its asymptotic variance (the factor multiplying 1/n1/n)?
