Break a stick once, longer and shorter piece

A stick of length 11 is broken at a single point chosen uniformly at random, producing two pieces.

What are the expected lengths of the longer and shorter pieces? And what is the probability the longer piece is at least twice the shorter?

Show a hint

Let UU be the break point, uniform on [0,1][0,1]. The two pieces are UU and 1U1 - U; the longer is max(U,1U)\max(U, 1-U). Use symmetry or a short integral.

Your answer

This one is open-ended. Work it through, then check your reasoning against the full solution.
